Mission Statement
The Social Work Unit at Boffa Hospital in Floriana, works closely with other professions in the holistic care and treatment of service users, and provides on a daily basis the necessary support, as well as to the users' families in their traumatic experience of facing the illnesses of their loved ones be it oncological, neurological, dermatological or other.
The Service
The social work unit at Boffa provides a range of supportive services, including:
- Counseling
- Issues arising during the service users' stay in hospital
- Matters regarding discharge from hospital
- After-care support
- Helping service users/families/carers access other services
- Liaising with statutory and voluntary groups
- Providing the service users/families/carers with information about their needs.
Aims and Objectives
The Social work unit's main objectives are:
- To Assist service users and family members with emotional concerns as well as practical matters.
- To form part of the multidisciplinary team and providing insight and understanding of the social and psychological dimensions of the medical circumstances affecting particular service users and their families.
- To contribute towards the professional development of the unit as well as working closely with other professionals with the team to enhance good practices.
- To seek to work with others on the development of new ideas towards raising the hospital's standards of care and performance.
- To take an active role in the education of social work and psychology students on placement at Boffa Hospital.
