Intake and Socio-Legal Services BulletOverview

The Intake and Socio-Legal Section of Agenzija Appogg provides an array of services to those persons and families who seek the help of the Agency for the first time or who had acquired help in the past and need assistance once again. Assistance is also provided in cases with legal issues, together with support to young people with emotional and behavioural difficulties.

The social workers within the Initial Response Service act as the first contact for new service users who seek help from Appogg. After carrying out an assessment of the case, the social workers within this service either deal with the case themselves on a short-term basis or else refer it to a more specialised service within the Agency, as necessary.

Supportline 179 is the national freephone helpline offering support, information and a referral service to callers in times of difficulty or crisis. The primary mission of the Supportline 179 service is to provide, on a national level, immediate unbiased help to those seeking information, support and/or referral to social service agencies.

Programm Ulied Darna is a service offered by trained volunteers and composed of 3 main projects. Progett Flimkien provides assistance to parents who require support by means of parenting skills, budgeting skills, house-keeping techniques as well as emotional support. Progett Hsibt Fik provides practical help to parents such as child minding, child respite as well as accompanying the parents to medical appointments. The volunteers working within Progett Tereza receive donations from the general public and distribute them to families with financial difficulties to improve their quality of life.

Agenzija Appogg offers support in cases within the Family Court related to care and custody of minors in cases of separation. Court Services within the Agency offer support in cases where the Judge requires a court report. The social workers carry out an assessment which helps them to compile this report together with a set of recommendations. Through the Court Monitoring Service, a monitoring social work professional appointed by the Court, continues to follow the family through home visits, office visits, school visits, access visits and other sessions which may be deemed necessary to continue providing a follow-up on the case.

Supervised Access Visits involve supervised contact between children and non-custodial parents and other members of their family. This helps to provide a safe, beneficial and child focused contact, where the child can maintain a relationship with his/her family.

The Youth Outreach Service provides assistance to adolescents between 13 and 18 years of age, with severe emotional and behavioural problems. The aim is to improve the overall well-being of these young people, while maintaing close collaboration with their parents.
